If you discover an issue that you think may be a WebMail bug, please send the details to unix@wi.mit.edu so that it can be reported to the vendor and incorporated into the next patch release.

When reporting bugs, please provide a detailed description of the problem, as well as the platform and browser version.

SECURE LOGIN

When using secure login, WebMail uses SSL to encrypt all data sent over the network to the WebMail server. Your browser must be capable of at least 40-bit encrypted communication to use secure login.

If this is the first time WebMail has been accessed from this specific browser, click HERE to install MIT's Certification Authority certificate in your browser. After installing the certificate, follow any instructions from your browser to accept and trust this authority on your computer.

You should use Secure Login if your connection to this page is NOT through the local Whitehead network, WI Remote Access or VPN. This will protect your WebMail network traffic from eavesdropping on the Internet.

REGULAR LOGIN

When using regular login, data sent between your computer and our mail server, including your username and password, may be sent over the network in clear text, where it is prone to eavesdropping.

If you are on the Whitehead network, your network traffic is not susceptible to eavesdropping, and you may use regular login without worrying about this issue.

You may use Regular Login if your connection to this page is through the local Whitehead network, WI Remote Access or VPN. Your WebMail network traffic is isolated to the WI network and not susceptible to eavesdropping out on the Internet.
